説明:

Kuniyoshi The Pumpkins of Sunamura A Tour of Edo's Famous Products The area of present-day Sunamachi in Tokyo’s Koto ward was originally known as Sunamura. The famous product of this area was the tonoasu, or kabocha pumpkin. Here a woman clutches a pumpkin as she seems absorbed in conversation. The small sub-picture shows a view of Edo bay, looking out from Sunamura Niita. Normally great amounts of attention were paid to the kimono worn by the figures in ukiyo-e prints. Many of these prints show the very latest in fashion, and the figures are all decked out in these new styles. Many of the women who appear in the A Tour of Edo’s Famous Products series are shown wearing the extremely popular and stylish striped patterns of the day.
