Monday, 26 December 2005 Title "Night Shower at Izumi Bridge" (PRE-earthquake) ("Izumibashi no __ Ame") Date Before 1923, PRE-earthquake (blocks destroyed). Series na Publisher Watanabe Shozaburo Seal, Carver/Printer na Image Size 5 1/4 x 12 1/4 (was 6 3/8 x 14 1/2 before "creping") ("tanzaku") Impression Very Fine. Superbly executed "bokashi" shading; crisply carved lines. Condition Very Good to Excellent. Strong colors. (Slight mat-line at right/left edges??) Reference/Illus Shotei.com website #M-15; this is the PRE-earthquake variant of very similar post-earthquake version illustrated in "The New Wave" as pl#86, p111. Comments Very rare PRE-earthquake of classic Shotei image. This example is a chirimen-e ("creped" print)--a mechanical process whereby the print has been "crinkled and compressed"--making is slightly smaller and "cloth-like."
