Print no. 33 of the series: "Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces" Pontoons, or floating bridges, were common in Japan, but the one in Toyama was particularly famous during Hiroshige’s time. First built over the Jinzu River in 1661, the bridge comprised a line of boats linked together with planks. It led to the village of Toyama, which can be seen at bottom right.
