Even today boats bring tourists to Tsukumo (Waterfall) Bay to see Falcon’s Nest Rock and Ganmon Caves, depicted here with a waterfall rushing down between blooming cherry trees. According to legend, the great warrior hero Minamoto Yoshitsune (1159−1189) and his followers hid in these caves when he was fleeing from his brother Minamoto Yoritomo, founder of the Kamakura Shogunate.
